I really hate Yun. Quite simply put, I hate Yun so much that I would rather fight Sagat than Yun.

It’s really like complaining about vanilla Sagat all over again.

But instead of complaining about vanilla Sagat’s insane damage, tiger uppercut trade into easy ultra, wall of s.hk, machine gun like tigershots and high health, I’m complaining about Yun’s 3f pokes, brain dead target combo, command grab into insane damage, palm of infinite active frames and damage, broken hitboxes, AA uppercut into super, a delayable dive kick that can be multi-angled, impossibly easy and good bread and butter combos, easy ex lunge punch, and the fact that everything combos into either a super or an ultra. Listing each broken property about Yun doesn’t properly illustrate why the character is broken, instead I believe a large part of the character’s brokenness is due to the combination of tools it possesses.

I mean I could go on for pages about why each combination or property is so broken. It’s not even about the player – I mean yes, its absolutely irritating when a YFY player does not fully appreciate just how good the character is and solely attributes his/her wins to skill rather than character, but often times its just plain demoralizing and frustrating fighting YFY when you know your opponent is spending much less effort. My innards would literally go up in flames when a Yun player would make a comeback by random ex-lunge punch.

AE in general has been detrimental to the growth of the sf scene as well. I distinctly remember the rage and frustration towards YFY that has led to the retirement of many players. Its not just at a local level (flashback thread: http://www.round1.sg/forums/index.php?topic=2063.0), but internationally as well. In Japan, Tetra/Chocoblanka has mentioned that the number of players have decreased a lot because of YFY. From what I’ve read on the SRK forum, a lot of players from the west are also vastly unhappy with the game from the get-go (though to be honest, I really doubt most of the haters know the true extent of YFY’s brokenness). Quite simply, it has un-made SF4.

I mean you GOTTA know its broken, when the Japanese, who are renowned for their politeness, actually chanted 糞ゲー (Kuso-ge, meaning shitty game) in unison at Tougeki 2011. During the 25th NSB, the announcer famously shouted なんという糞ゲー as well after Kindevu killed Y24 despite Y24 evidently demonstrating that he was the better player in that particular match by far. Recall how after Momochi won NSB with Yun, there were well over 140 comments that were posted on his blog, half of which are rage comments.

Even recently, you can sense the gloom that surrounded the audience at Canada Cup when Kazunoko merciless mowed down all his opponents, effectively making Grand Finals look like a joke. After the singles tournament, he was interviewed and asked the question how exactly does he deal with the Yun hate, he famously answered that he wishes people hate him even more for using such a broken character. I admire Kazunoko for his attitude, and I believe that even with the 2012 changes, he will be a successful player (recall how he is a top Guilty Gear despite using Order Sol). However it will be a rude awakening for those who never realized and appreciated just how broken YFY is.

Don’t get me wrong, strong players will be fine. I don’t expect current YFY players to just fall over and lose when 2012 comes out, because a high level YFY does take a lot of skill to use. In fact I respect those players who stuck with YFY all the way despite all the criticisms they have received. They will still win the majority of the tournaments and perform well, but its going to be a major test for the less universally accepted users when they find out that the AE2012 system will no longer tolerate sloppy plays. The shining ray of light however, is the fact that this will be a chance for them to prove themselves, to show that they won not because of YFY, but because of their own skills. And on the receiving end, people like me who have detested YFY must win against the YFY users to prove all the while that the YFY hate is justified.

So believe it when I say that the hatred will continue even into 2012. People will always find something to hate.

Though the redeeming fact is that people hate only because they care.

Humanbomb just came back from Sydney and hes going to stay in HK permanently. He already played a couple money matches with some of our local players already (Scrubydan, Gameoutttt, Kawing, MrSit, Followupursf) with both wins and losses. Though I believe its definitely a plus for everyone in gaining new matchup experiences.

As for events, Hong Kong will be playing against Taiwan for the fifth time in mid November. We will be holding a qualifier to select some of the players that will be representing HK in our 10 vs 10. No doubt big names like Gamerbee, Arubi and GiPie will be representing Taiwan so this is definitely going to be one hell of a tournament ^.^

I’ll be playing in the qualifiers too but truth be told is I’m not as interested as I should be since 2012 is coming out, plus the fact that I have so much to improve on that I don’t think I’m ready at all.

However we will be holding a good-bye 2011 AE local 3v3 tournament tournament in late November. We are putting in a lot of effort in this tournament so that it can be enjoyable not only for the top players, but also the beginners/newcomers as well. =)
