So I bought a 2nd hand Xbox and created an a/c (Carzydog1987) just to play AE. Its really tiring to try keep up with the ranking everyday to be honest. However its great when you can play against famous peeps on XBL ranking. So far I got to play against luminaries like Daigo, Nemo, Tokido, Misse, Zangitan, Markun, Bonchan, Acqua, YHCMochi, Eita and a bunch of other people. Fanboy mode activates when you start playing XBL JPN. Though some people like Kiryu Tsukimiya will just insta-boot non-Japanese accounts out because they won’t accept even a little lag, where as peeps like LeviStrauss will just play with anyone.

Singapore/Hong Kong Players Progress:

Non JPN peeps like Xian/Gackt/Followupursf/Scrubydan and others were also on top 20 but have been going up and down. A lot of the top 20 changes often (with the exception of a few like Daigo) because its actually really easy to lose PP. I got to 4.2k PP  (Player Points) this week and am getting closer to 10k bp for zangief pn JPN flag (#1 is zangitan ~_~, he has 13k+). You reeeeally must not lose to ANY scrubs AND have a winning ratio/record against people similar/better than you to increase in ranking. For example if I win against someone with 2000 PP i’d only get like 12 PP, where as if I had lost I would lose over 100++ PP. Its especially dangerous if you come across bad matchups/characters that are really random. So XBL ranking battle forces you to be consistently good, which is great. Ranking battle helps build tournament mentality because there’s always something at stake, its like having a card system for the first time (not sure for PSN cuz I don’t think PSN is as competitive as XBL).

Pros and Cons:

At first I was nervous about a lot of the matches that I played on XBL, but overtime you get desensitized and no matter who I play (however strange and foreign my opponent is) I am still calm… most of the time :P . Though its easy to rage when you die to random stuff. The worst part is after one game of raging, its very easy to carry the raging to the next game -_-. Don’t play ranking when you are feeling cranky it’ll just make things worse :P . The GOOD part is that it really helps you to learn how to read/adapt to your opponent who you are playing against for the very first time.

Oh and replay system rocks because you get to stalk all of your favorite players =X

The Verdict:

While online play is not 100% indicative of the player’s strength, it is nevertheless a decent substitute for offline play. There are complications of lag from time to time but that being said I still prefer the Arcade, but the ranking system is pretty addictive. Hopefully I can get to top 20 PP / break 10k BP soon. But lag has been crappy lately, DAMN YOU ICABLE ~_~

Feel free to add me on XBL ^_^~

Arcadia Magazine:

One last thing – Arcadia recently came out with a new magazine to suck more of our money. It contains pictures of all the characters’ moveset hitbox and frame data, including Oni and Evil Ryu which the last magazine lacked. Contact me or drop a message if you need it.

SBO Qualifiers is coming up in Hong Kong but I probably might not attend since its for contestants who are willing to pay for themselves/am free to to go to Japan in September for Tokyo Game Show.  But I guess its not too big of a loss since this year’s SBO probably won’t be as exciting as the last.
