Revised Zangief match Up Ratio

Oh em gee! Bad match up for Sagat!

I’m currently revising my match up ratio list that I made when AE first came out. Usually I like to reevaluate my match up ratio list from time to time to think about what changed, and to prioritize match ups that I should focus on.

Since not everyone could spare the time to master every single match up, nor do people usually have the the opportunity to practice against every match up, I believe its important to focus on getting reeeeally good at certain match up in getting prepared for a team tournament. As with any team tournaments, I believe all players who don’t play a S tier character should practice their best match ups first, and their worst match ups – best match ups because in team tournaments, unless you are going first you most likely be sent to fight against a character that you will have an advantage over, should you lose these advantageous matchups, its a very detrimental blow to your team; and worst match up so that you will have a decent chance against the opponent who will most likely send a worst matchup against you, should you win your advantageous matchup.

Anyway moving on to my matchup ratio again…

Match Up Ratio

Disclaimer: This list is also dependent on how familiar I am with the matchup xD as well as based on the assumption that the characters are played by two equally good players.

Zangief:Other

Very advantageous

Hakan 7:3 (Not really familiar with this matchup, haven’t fought any hakans)
Yang 6.5:3.5 (Peihoon’s Yang make it seem like 5:5 though -.-, but thats just because he’s that much better as a player)

Advantageous

Claw 6:4
Dudley 6:4
Fuerte 6:4
Dee Jay 6:4
Yun 6:4 5:5 (This matchup will get worse for Gief as time goes on)
Sakura 6:4
Blanka 6:4
Adon 6:4
Juri 6:4
Guy 6:4
Gouken 6:4
Cody 6:4
Rufus 6:4

Slightly Advantageous

Ibuki 5.5:4.5
Dictator 5.5:4.5
Chun Li 5.5:4.5
Ryu 5.5:4.5

Even

Guile 5:5
Boxer 5:5
Makoto 5:5
Ken 5:5
Cammy 5:5

Disadvantageous

Viper 4:6
Feilong 3:7 with normal style 4:6 with itazan style
Honda 4:6

Very disadvantageous

Dhalsim: 3.5:6.5
Gouki 3:7
Sagat 3:7
T.Hawk 3:7 (It’s not REALLY 3-7…. more like 4-6 but I just like putting this here because of how much I hate S.HK =P)
To be honest a lot of the match ups in between the categories “Even and slightly advantageous” are kinda iffy, not really 100% sure about how really advantageous Gief is with my current standard of play :/

Update:

There are a few matchups that should be higher. For example with Dhalsim, Mahoshojo commented that he feels its a 4-6, so obviously thats one area that I really gotta work on :( . Some match ups where I should practice to get better at are mainly Feilong, Dictator, Abel, Ibuki, Chun Li, Dhalsim  to push them back into what the range should be at (5:5 or 6:4).  I’ve somewhat given up at trying to fight Sagat; instead trying to learn akuma instead lolz.

Secretz to the Mind Game of Tick Throwing

Well got back from my week long trip from Singapore and its been really awesome seeing and playing against everyone :) .

Much Love to The Boogeese Gang <3

Learned a lot but I’ll save my experience and thoughts about the trip for another day.

Meanwhile I was working on my Zangief guide again and I’ve posted a piece about tick throws, and the mind game involved behind it. Hopefully it will give people a better idea of what its really about.

Excerpt:

“Honestly Gief can land all sorts of tick throws from any kind of normals. However the trick to landing them is dependent on how well the opponent is accustomed to certain tick throw setups. So as a player, try to read and find out what tick throws work best on the opponent. Not all types of tick throws work on all players. So for setups that don’t work, read how your opponent escapes them, and then find a blockstring that will punish them for that particular setup.  For setups that work, continue to abuse them until the opponent learns how to deal with it.”

I’m Back; Also I Need Ideas for 3v3

For some reason I’ve been having this urge to kick start the blog again. So here I am back again!

Been dabbling with the appearance settings and let me tell you its actually quite a bit of work. So really kudos to those who have not only made blogs, but are able to sustain them. :D

I’m probably going to start write down my ideas for Zangief here as well for reference, as well as post match up specific thoughts here.

Back in Hong Kong there are several exciting events coming up including:

1. [第二回 HKF 三對三比賽] 2nd Round of HKFighter 3on3 Tournament (May 22nd)

2. [港台戰再臨]  Hong Kong vs Taiwan 8on8  (Tentatively June )

3. Hong Kong vs Singapore 16on16 (Tentatively July)

I’m cooking up some potential team ideas for the 3on3 tournament. Last tournament I teamed up with Siu Ba 小霸 (YA) and Ka Wing (YU) and we made it past the first round against a strong team featuring a good local akuma player named codynp. The 2nd round we lost to Scrubydan’s Team. We were so close to beating their team but Scrubydan’s (SA) comeback instinct was too good and reversed the fortunes. His team proceeded to beat and reverse OCV’ed the favorite team of the tournament which consisted of Kit (YA), Lau (YU) and 大頭仔 (IB) and took home the gold. I just gotta say Scrubydan gets better as his health gets lower -.-, he thrives on pressure.

Oh and that was also the day when Brans came over to HK and we had lots of fun Money Matches :>.

The first video is first my matches against 煙龍 (RY), a good HK ryu. I played very conservatively overall (perhaps too much) but still had some mistakes here and there.

I proceeded to lose to Mr.Sit (Ab) who played a very yomi-based sniper-type Abel and I feel he capitalized on my indecisiveness very well (2nd Video). I really need to work on my Abel game.

Anyway the 3rd video is the highlight of the tournament is the match between Scrubydan vs Kit :D . Kit nearly won but Dan made some good calls towards the end and sealed the deal. Though I feel that Sagat’s gameplay has really peaked and Yang’s gameplay has yet to mature fully. So the matchup should technically get better for Yang as time goes on.

For the rest of the tournament links go here:

Anyway I might switch up the team formation a bit in the coming tournament. Ideas anyone? :D
